Focus on Uzbekistan: Sustainable upgrading needs of formalin production giant

Uzbekistan, a rapidly developing economy in Central Asia, is actively embracing technological innovation and green development in its industrial sector. ENCO's contract with one of the country's largest and most technologically advanced formalin producers, backed by strong government support, is a key challenge for the company. The formalin production process inevitably generates wastewater or byproducts containing ammonium sulfate. Efficiently, economically, and environmentally friendly extraction and conversion of ammonium sulfate into valuable commercial fertilizer poses a key challenge for the plant, aiming to improve resource efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and achieve sustainable chemical production.

ENCO Solution: Comprehensively conquer the complete line technology for ammonium sulfate extraction

After in-depth project site visits and technical discussions, the ENCO team, leveraging its extensive experience and expertise in evaporation crystallization, membrane filtration, and resource recovery, earned the client's full trust. The contract confirmed that ENCO would be responsible for processing the ammonium sulfate-containing material generated during the formalin production process, providing a complete turnkey solution from pretreatment to final product packaging, including but not limited to:

Patented technology to remove HCN from solution

Reverse Osmosis System (RO System): Serving as the initial concentration unit, it efficiently removes some water, increases material concentration, reduces subsequent evaporation load, and embodies the concept of energy conservation (Salt Water Treatment Efficiency). This system will be precisely selected and designed based on the material characteristics.

Triple Effect Evaporator System: The core concentration and crystallization unit. Its triple-effect design maximizes thermal efficiency and significantly reduces system steam consumption. Advanced crystallization control technology ensures uniform, pure ammonium sulfate crystals. This system is key to economical and efficient operation.

Cooling and Drying System: This system further cools and crystallizes the evaporated concentrate (MOP crystallization) to improve crystal yield and purity. A drying system (such as a fluidized bed dryer) removes surface moisture from the crystals, ensuring that the finished ammonium sulfate product meets national and industry standards for moisture content and quality.

Granulator System: Based on customer needs, the dried ammonium sulfate powder can be converted into granular urea substitute (Granular Fertilizer), improving market acceptance, reducing dust, and facilitating storage and long-distance transportation. ENCO will utilize advanced and reliable granulation processes (such as rotary drum granulation).

Auxiliary and control systems: This includes feeding, conveying, packaging, and exhaust gas treatment (Air Emission Control), particularly the highly integrated automated control system (DCS/PLC Automation) to ensure stable, efficient, and safe operation of the entire line.

Core advantages: Automation and modular design lead to new low costs

In addition to providing advanced and mature core processes, ENCO will highlight two key competencies in this project:

  • Highly automated and intelligent: The integration of advanced distributed control systems (DCS) or programmable logic controllers (PLCs) enables centralized monitoring, remote operation, fault diagnosis, data logging, and analysis of the entire production process. This not only improves production stability and reduces labor costs and reliance on personnel, but also ensures consistent product quality and compliance with Uzbekistan's increasingly stringent industrial safety standards. Notably, this high level of automation allows the factory to operate unmanned at night.Modular Engineering:
  • ENCO will implement a modularized solution throughout the engineering design phase. Key process units will be highly prefabricated and standardized within the factory, and pre-commissioned. Upon arrival at the Uzbek site, they will be installed primarily by bolt-on fast connections. This model significantly shortens the construction timeline, significantly reduces site construction complexity and costs, reduces the skill dependency required for on-site personnel, and effectively mitigates the risk of delays common in overseas projects.

These two core advantages, combined with strong process integration capabilities, make this project highly cost-effective and are expected to save the client considerable capital expenditure and total cost of ownership.

Strategic significance: A new milestone for ENCO's overseas markets and core technologies

This project is not only a significant commercial contract but also holds far-reaching strategic significance:

  • Entering a benchmark market in Central Asia: Successfully entering and serving Uzbekistan's largest formalin producer, particularly one backed by a government-backed enterprise, has established a benchmark case study for ENCO throughout Central Asia, opening the door to a broader market for Uzbekistan's Mid-Asia Chemical Environmental Solutions and Central Asia Resource Recovery projects.
  • Proofing Core Technology Strength: The efficient recovery and high-quality production of ammonium sulfate are exemplary examples of resource-based treatment of chemical production waste. This project represents the ultimate commercial validation of ENCO's core technology: "Evaporation, Crystallization + Membrane Processing + Resource Recovery." Its application value in formalin process enhancement, in particular, has been recognized by leading clients.
  • A new level of automation and modularization: This project will serve as a model for ENCO's overseas strategy of "High-end, Intelligent, and Intensive Exports (Automated Modularized Projects in Asia)." Its successful implementation will accumulate valuable experience for the modular and intelligent delivery of more overseas projects.

Next Plans and Cooperation Outlook

Following the signing of the agreement, the ENCO team has begun detailed process package, equipment selection, and custom equipment design. Both parties will maintain close communication to ensure the project progresses efficiently and according to schedule, aiming to deliver a modern ammonium sulfate recovery facility with cutting-edge technology, efficient operations, and significant profitability. ENCO expects this project to become a cornerstone for future collaboration in industrial environmental protection with its Uzbek customers and across Central Asia.
